Prof. Takashi Matsushima

Granular materials are ubiquitous in daily life, yet a comprehensive,
first-principles theory remains unestablished. This talk introduces
the fundamental concepts linking grain-scale mechanics to the
behavior of dense granular assemblies through regular packing
models. Furthermore, based on intriguing numerical observations
of disordered granular systems, I will discuss a statistical
mechanics approach to modeling the constitutive relations of dense
granular materials.
